I flew to Oakland on Saturday, April 12, 2003, and met my Dad in the airport as planned.  He had flown from Tampa.  We stayed in Alameda at the Marina Village Inn, which we had liked on previous visits.  We were not outside very much at the motel, as the weather was cool and grey much of the time, but it has a good view of downtown Oakland and the Berkeley Hills.
One of the reasons for travel at this time was to celebrate Evan's 7th birthday on Wednesday the 16th.  Other highpoints included an elegant dinner at Chez Panisse, excursions to many other local restaurants, and several wonderful dinners that Lauren prepared.  We particularly appreciated a grand Passover dinner celebration.

One afternoon (once the weather improved) we decided to take a drive to Tilden Park in the hills above Berkeley and Oakland.  This view is with the Bay Bridge and San Francisco in the background.
